IFF Launches Phytase Enzyme for Dairy Cattle

Quick Takeaways:

  • IFF has launched Omni-Bos PHY, a phytase enzyme developed specifically for dairy cattle to improve nutrient utilization and feed efficiency. The product will initially launch across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific.
  • Designed for ruminant digestion, Omni-Bos PHY helps break down phytate and release protein, phosphorus, and minerals already present in feed. In one study, it reduced undegraded phytate in the abomasum by approximately 70% versus a control diet.
  • Studies in lactating dairy cows showed improved phosphorus and phytate digestibility, higher crude protein and calcium digestibility, and reduced nitrogen and phosphorus excretion, potentially helping producers lower feed costs while supporting more sustainable dairy production.

Why It Matters?

IFF’s launch of Omni‑Bos PHY, a ruminant‑specific phytase for dairy cattle, targets the fast‑growing feed‑enzymes segment in Asia‑Pacific, the Middle East and Africa, where producers are under pressure to cut feed costs and reduce nitrogen and phosphorus excretion. By breaking down phytate and improving digestibility of phosphorus, protein and calcium, the enzyme can help lower reliance on supplemental minerals and inorganic phosphates, support more sustainable dairy production, and strengthen IFF’s position in animal nutrition against competitors such as Novonesis, Adisseo and Evonik.
